The Effects of Deforestation

An essay I wrote for my English lesson in school...
Forests play a huge role in the ecosystem of all living things. It's a habitat for animals, a source of food and oxygen for humans, and also our source of building materials.Forests are also our country's source of income.Without forests, the earth wouldn't be the same and we would all face humongous problems and chaos.(not exaggerating here)
Deforestation may 'benefit' us in some ways;our big beautiful homes, comfortable furniture, unlimited supply of colourful paper and pencils, and source of our wood for woodwork during Kemahiran Hidup. While enjoying the splendor of all these things, have we stopped to wonder about the effects of deforestation are?The word 'deforestation' alone sends chills down my spine.
Deforestation causes the habitat of many animals to be destroyed, which then causes animals to die. Some species are on the verge of extinction because of this man-made phenomena.Although there are a number of animals which survive from getting killed along with their homes, that doesn't assure their safety, not one bit. These animals usually end up wandering into villages in rural areas and end up getting killed and most probably eaten there.A number of rare species of animals are caught by poachers and sold illegally.
During the course of deforestation usually comes forest fires and open burnings.Another thing it causes is landslides. All these cause lives to be lost, homes to perish and trauma in lives that survive.Fellow humans who live in forest areas are forced to live in fear and worry that the dirt and rocks from the hill beside their houses might one day suddenly fall on top of their roofs and burry them alive. To save themselves from the dangers of landslide they most probably have to move away from the place they are so used to calling home and sanctuary because in reality, there's nothing safe about the area.
Need I explain about forest fires. We all know the danger of fires and the despair it can inflict on someone when everything they own and have grown accustomed to disappears in a matter of minutes. There are cases where landslides and fires have caused families to be lost, children younger than we ever expected to be the only ones left alive in those disasters.Having your loved ones gone in a blink of an eye.It doesn't feel right to be living in comfort when so many others are suffering so we get to live in the houses were once forests where they called home.
I'm not saying we ought to live in caves. What I'm saying is we should do something about it.Start by recycling. As simple as it may seem,it will save a lot of resources and save our forests as well.
